About Me

My name is Geoffrey and I enjoy lots of different things. I am a Life Scout with Troop 827, and I enjoy Geocaching, reading, video games, and Legos. I also love going to amusement parks and riding roller coasters! Six Flags is one of my favorite parks. I love to build things with Legos. They let you build whatever you want. I just start building and never stop. I have built lots of kits, especially the Lego Star Wars sets. I have built the Y-Wing fighter, Imperial Walkers, Jedi Starfighters, and even the Death Star from Return of the Jedi.

Scouting

Before moving to Georgia, I was in the Scorpion patrol of Troop 892. Now I am a life scout in Troop 827. At the beginning of 8th grade, I had 17 completed merit badges, and the rank of life scout, though I guarantee that I will be an Eagle Scout by ninth grade.

Some of the things I've done in scouts

Stone Mountain
One of my first campouts with Troop 827 was at Stone Mountain. It is the largest chunk of exposed granite in the world, and we climbed 825 feet all the way to the top. We had lunch at the top and the view was amazing. You could see all the way to Atlanta.

Indoor Climbing Lock-In
Our December campout was actually a lock-in where we spent the night in an indoor climbing place called Adrenaline Climbing. There were several ways we could climb, ranging from easy to really difficult. We got to finish most of the Climbing merit badge, then we went back to finish the rest and got to do repelling and bouldering. It was really fun!

Klondike
Klondike was a competition where the Troops would split up into their Patrols and go to different stations and do a scoutcraft. If it was done right, the Patrol would get gold for their effort. At the end they would count up the amount of gold they had and whoever had the most gold would win. There was also a race where the Patrol had to push their cart on a track. Some of the carts fell apart. It was a ton of fun! The only bad thing was that it was really really cold and was actually snowing most of the day.

Campout Of The Century at Burt Adams Scout Reservation
The Campout of the Centry was a lot of fun. We got to throw tomahawks, listen to a rock band, human foosball, and watch fireworks. Throwing tomahawks was the coolest. I even broke the target.

Atlanta Area Council National Youth Leadership Training
I went to NYLT in the summer of 2010 and had a great time despite the mosquitos and that I had to sleep in my tent for 5 days. It got really musty and smelly. NYLT was a leadership training course that tells you how to teach, know how to tell if others are listening, and how to listen yourself. It was a really good course for leadership. All the groups were based on the Star Wars movies. I was in the Red Unit, and the Jabba the Hut team. We even got to see Star Wars: A New Hope on the 4th day.
Here is a picture of my NYLT Unit.

Camp Daniel Boone

For summer camp this year we went to Camp Daniel Boone. This was my second time at CDB, since I went the previous year with Troop 892. The water was REALLY cold! I took the Communications, Camping, Geocaching, and Fishing merit badges, and also did the Trail to Eagle. I finished the Geocaching merit badge at camp and it was by far the most fun!
Dad got put on trial for "Damage of Boonesborough Property". He broke the tomahawk target. He was found guilty, along with his attorneys, and sentanced to sing I'm A Little Tea Pot.

2010 Jamboree
The 2010 Scout Jamboree was the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. I went with my family for the day and it was a lot of fun! I got to see some of the scouts in Troop 827 and also a lot of scouts from my old troop, Troop 892. The army was flying helicopters dropping fire retardant on the trees so that the fireworks wouldn't set the woods on fire. The National Guard area was fun, and the Coast Guard had remote controlled boats. All the stations were really cool!

Geocaching

Since moving to Atlanta, I started 'officially' geocaching, that is, I have registered online at geocaching.com. So now if I find a geocache, it is posted as "found" and whoever checks the cache online can see that I have found it. Before registering, I could have found every geocache in the U.S. and no one would ever have any idea that I had found it.

School

I am in the 8th grade at North Gwinnett Middle School. This is only the second year this school as existed. This year I'm taking Accellerated Math, Accelerated Science and Latin, along with the other normal classes. This year in science I'm going to be doing physical science which is basically chemestry and physics. There are so many things we are going to be doing in math that I just can't tell you. Basically we are going to be shoving 8th, 9th, and 10th grade math into this year (Polynomials, Geometry, Algegra, etc.). I am also on the Academic Team, where we train for different academic trivia events. Its kind of like Jeopardy in teams.
I really like how the school is organized. It took them a while to work out all the kinks of being a new school, like when and how to change classes. All the teachers are really good teachers.
